Pottery Vase for Flowers
Pottery Vase for Flowers
Contemporary Vase with Speckled Glaze - a very special piece of pottery. I LOVE the colour, speckles and shape!!
The Ceramic vase is created on my potter's wheel and is made from buff speckled stoneware clay. When the vase dries to leather hard, the MadeByPowley stamp is impressed into the exterior wall near the base. The vase is thoroughly dried before it is placed into the kiln to be bisque fired to 1050 degrees Celcius.
The bisqued vase is then ready to glaze. The impressed area of the MadeByPowley stamp is covered in underglaze and then removed with a wet sponge. Once it dries, the stamp impression is glazed so the lettering appears in grey. Next, the area of the stamp is sealed with liquid wax. When the wax is dried then the rest of the vase is glazed. The exterior of the vase is covered in a speckled light duck egg blue satin glaze, The interior is glazed in a clear glaze so the buff stoneware shows through. Finally, the pottery piece is returned to the kiln for its high firing (which reaches 1250 degrees Celcius). After a day of firing and a day waiting for the kiln to cool...on the third day the kiln is open and the finished vase appears!
When the vase is filled with water, do not place it directly on wood without a coaster. This applies to both factory-made and handmade ceramics.
Dried flowers not included.
